Peanut Update 2: Post Surgery

Posted by The Dear Wife in Sunday, November 3rd 2013   under: Family, Peanut

We fully intended to write another update much sooner than this…but with we’ve slipped into the “sleep when baby sleeps” mentality, which unfortunately for Peanut that means she isn’t sleeping well. 🙁 I actually began writing update #2 on Halloween, but with irregular sleeping patterns and focusing all our energy on Peanut when she’s awake, […]

Peanut Update 1: Post Surgery

Posted by The Dear Wife in Wednesday, October 30th 2013   under: Family, Peanut

No one leave their comment yet

In the past roughly 50 hrs since surgery, Peanut has made great progress. I’ll admit, Tuesday was discouraging as she was in quite a bit of pain and slept a lot. She had a rough last night into early morning today. However, as the pictures below show…her recovery is going full speed ahead! One of […]

The Surgery

Posted by The Dear Wife in Tuesday, October 29th 2013   under: Family, Peanut

As we mentioned in a previous post, Peanut was scheduled for major bowel surgery on the 28th (yesterday), and we’re happy to report, that it went as well as can be expected. We (and her team of doctors) had three main goals to accomplish with by doing this surgery. 1) to “take down” the ostomy […]

Waiting To Exhale…Not The Whitney Houston Movie

Posted by The Dear Wife in Saturday, July 20th 2013   under: Family, Peanut

We’ve been eagerly waiting for this day. July 20th…Peanut’s 1st birthday! I remember every moment, every sound, every smell, every emotion from July 20th, 2012. Here’s the short version of what I remember. It was a Friday. I was 30 weeks 5 days gestation. I had been on bed rest for almost four weeks…it was […]

Kid-bytes…

If Bill Cosby’s “Kids Say The Darndest Things” show was still on TV…I’d have the perfect guest for him. Lulu. Okay, okay, I’m sure that every child at some point in their toddler years has said something that made their parent(s) think “what the heck did he/she just say”! Such is the case with our […]

Aged to perfection…9 years in the making

Posted by The Dear Wife in Sunday, February 24th 2013   under: Family

Okay, so no one is perfect, but nine is the perfect age for a boy (in my humble mom opinion). Nine-year-olds still snuggle, hold your hand in public, and freely give you hugs and kisses. [Sigh] I wish it could last forever! Our Potato Boy sure is the SWEETEST boy in world! Happy 9th birthday […]

The Anatomy of a Peanut

Posted by The Dear Wife in Thursday, January 17th 2013   under: Family, Peanut

As we spent time with family and friends over the holiday season, it became apparent that reading about Peanut’s condition and seeing it first-hand are two very different things. There were several good questions about some of the terms we’ve used in Peanut’s updates. It’s easy for us to explain what a broviac or a […]

A Baptism & A Birthday…

This past Sunday we had a celebration for two very special little girls as they reached new milestones. Lulu turns 3 years old on Friday, and Peanut was baptized (she will also be 6 months old come this Sunday). Due to the nature of the season – flu & cold season that is – we […]

A Long Overdue Peanut Update…

Posted by The Dear Wife in Tuesday, January 15th 2013   under: Family, Peanut

With returning to work, I’ve found it difficult to find time for an update on Peanut! Heck, I’m finding it difficult to find time to shower! But enough of that…Peanut has had some exciting changes over the past two weeks, so here’s your long overdue update! Last week she made the jump from TPN (total […]

After receiving a tip from a family friend, my wife and I ventured down a dusty road for the first time together in search of a house that was for sale by owner. The potential was there: wood floors buried beneath dated carpet, solid wood pocket doors surrounded by 100 year old trim, and a faded screen door leading to a covered porch complete with a white wooden swing. So, in July of 2011 my wife and I became only the third family to own this 100+ year old two-story farm house and surrounding acreage on a quiet dusty road in rural Iowa. What you’ll find on these pages is the story of what comes next.
